a 3 step process to feeling better

The fact is we’re all going to have days in which we wake up on the wrong side of the bed or feel emotionally sensitive. While Autumn is a beautiful time of the year many clients report that this season brings with it sleepless nights, anxiety, low mood and other emotional issues.

In this case, the last thing we want to do is try to fight our way through the day or ignore how we are feeling.

At the same time we must go to work, take care of our family and go about our daily routine… so what do we do??!!

Here is a three part process that will honor how you are feeling while at the same time chip away at the task list.

1. Honor Yourself (make a daily goal adjustment)

The first thing to understand is that honoring how you are feeling should be taught in schools at an early age. However it is not and many of us are not quite sure how to effectively deal with the emotional sensations that arise in our body.

If having a rough day…honor it*…don’t fight it…you are allowed to be “off” once in while. Realize you may not get every single thing on “the list” done today. Shoot for 50-75%! You’ll live, trust me…in fact by letting go, you may be surprised and how quickly you transition through the emotions and are back to your normal self. If my Type-A personality can do this so can you!

2. Create a Mini-Retreat

Take a look at the to-do list. Where can you schedule in 2, 5-minute periods of meditation or prayer time? A mini-retreat can be designed to include whatever steps you need to take to relax and “check out” for a few minutes. If possible, make it longer than 5 minutes. Some great retreat choices are meditation, listening to relaxing music or a walking meditation (get outside). Feel free to contact me to schedule an ERT session and I will include time to plan a mini-retreat for you at no extra cost.

3. Human Resources

Ask for help. Don’t hesitate. Look at your “to do list” and see where you could use some support. When I was a teacher there would be times that I would ask my staff if I could step out for a short while. If we need it we should get it! This will benefit everyone.

Do you need someone to step in for you for 5-10 minutes at work so you can “check out”? Could you use an extra pair of hands running errands or taking care of the kids?

Think about it this way…what would you do if your colleague or friend came to you and asked you for 10 minutes of support? For mote details on human resources click Support!

This is where Energy Restoration Therapy comes in. Other things to think about is a daily meditation practice, yoga and creating a healthy routine.
