Reading Excerpt and Remedies:

I’d like to help you get to the bottom of why, amidst a life that seems pretty darn good, it still seems like you have an inner feeling or sense that something’s missing and/or there’s more to do or accomplish. And why, at the same time you’re feeling “something’s missing”, you lack the desire and motivation to succeed further. These opposing forces are causing a confusing whirlwind of dullness in you and trailing behind you.

Journaling: Where in life have you been “holding off” or preventing your whole self from being seen. This could be very personal. Make this a time period of self inquiry. Consistently step back, contemplate and journal about any aspects of you that you routinely hide away. For example, desires you have, feelings, opinions and/or thoughts that you’ve kept inside due to the fear of being seen for who you really are or the perceived shame you assume will come with it. If at times, you’re feeling a bit unconformable when writing this you know you’re on the right track. Journaling is a great strategy to consider here because it begins the process of routine outward expression. Often times, through journaling, we become more expressive and in sync with what’s really going on within us. This can lead to us uncovering interests, desires and other aspects of ourselves we buried a long time ago. For some, this highlights a habit of settling for crumbs.

Younger Years: Find some quiet time to contemplate memories in which you acted or reacted to your parents in a way that caused you to “get small”, “hide away” or procrastinate/avoid action as a way to deal with the fear. A deeper look into your past could also uncover memories in which you did take action and, in your opinion at the time, felt you made the situation worse. We tend to hold onto these experiences,  making them a part of who we are. This holding on causes habitual self-restricting thoughts, judgments and habit patterns. Continually remember the great truth that you were always doing the best you could with what you had at the time. Hold compassionate space for the younger parts of you that had these painful experiences.

Noble Goal: Know that you do best when connecting to a loftier (I.e. higher, noble) humanitarian type goal. For the past 16 years you’ve always had something bigger than yourself and your career to tend to. You raised 3 children including one with special needs. Take time to think about and explore what the next “make a difference” type goal may be for you. Without a deep connection to making a difference in the world the success you do have may always fall a bit short of fulfillment.
