The Inner Child
This was going to be my last attempt to help this woman heal her relationship with her husband. She had to come to terms with the fact that if things were going to get better it had to come from her. I decided to guide her into a meditation in which she sends long distance healing to her husband.
As we closed our eyes I was surprised at the words that were coming out of my mouth. Before jumping into the husband-healing meditation I was guided to have her connect with her own inner child first. I wasn’t sure why this was happening but I decided to go with it. I guided her awareness into her body and asked her connect with the child aspect of her. I was guided to tell her to bring her inner child with her to support the healing she would provide her husband.
The 2nd half of the meditation was beautiful as she worked alongside the child version of herself to connect with her husband and send him healing. I guided her to send beautiful golden-white healing energy and love to her him in hopes of healing his emotional wounds and providing a more loving, open and content state of mind. Finally, it was time to wrap up the meditation and discuss.
This is when I realized why I had been guided to bring her inner child into the meditation.
With tears in her eyes she explained that she had met her husband when they were children. She remembered the strong connection they had as kids and that they had a deep understanding of each other at a young age. She went on to explain that during the meditation, when I guided her to connect with her husband she immediately saw the young boy in him and the emotionally traumatic things he had experienced at a young age. She saw how this old stress is still a part of him and causes him to behave in a certain way today. While she knew of these experiences being able to see them from this perspective provided her much insight, empathy and understanding. She had a renewed sense of faith that with proper communication and patience the relationship could get better and looked forward to going home and talking with him.
Reflection
One of the benefits of meditation is the improved ability to see things from different perspectives and to realize that we are 50% (or more) of the problem in all of the issues that are happening in our life. We tend to forget that people act a certain way for a reason and if we knew their whole story we wouldn’t be surprised or confused by their behavior. We all have an “inner child” within us. Often times this child carries the stress and pain that we experienced at a young age and this can have great impact on us now. Absolutely beautiful! You have a wonderful gift.
