We all have our closest  friends right!?

And those close friends would do anything for us right?  If we needed a place to crash for a night…they would let us in! If we needed to borrow some extra cash or vent our frustrations…they would be there!

But how many of them are willing to scrub the sludge and residue from your intestines on an everyday basis? Yuck!!!

For this type of job I want to introduce to three spice-friends you will want to get to know real well…cumin seeds, coriander seeds and fennel seeds.

Here is a brief synopsis of the benefits of each spice…

Coriander (The Home Pitta Pacifer): An excellent appetizer, helps in proper secretion of enzymes and digestive juices in the stomach, stimulates digestion and peristaltic motion. The essential oils in coriander are rich in anti microbial, antioxidant, anti infectious and detoxifying components. The presence of vitamin-C and iron strengthen the immune system too. It increases digestion and absorption, digests ama (toxic residue in the intestines) and is a mild diuretic.

Cumin (The Hot Kidney Cleanser): Cumin is a mild diuretic and digestive aid. It has good Ama (toxic residue in the intestines) scraping action. Also known to relieves swelling and abdominal pain (especially of intestinal origin) and stimulates appetite. Good for loss of appetite, vomiting, indigestion, gas, abdominal pain and IBS.

Fennel (The Grounded Soother): Fennel relieves abdominal cramping, spasms and gas. It is a super digestive aid without aggravating pitta (creating inflammation). Has been used for bloating, gas, IBS, malabsorption, indigestion, low agni (digestive fire) and colic. Improves all energy flow in and around abdomen.

So cooking with these spices or even just chewing fennel seeds after eating can help keep your digestion on track as well as correct many current digestive disturbances you may be experiencing. However…here is another simple and easy to apply idea….make your own tea!

All you need is a thermos!

Boil water and place into the thermos.

Place the following seeds amounts in with the water (measurements are for a quart sized thermos).

1 tsp. fennel seeds

1/2 tsp. cumin seeds

1/2 tsp. coriander seeds

Carry your thermos with you to work, in the car or wherever you go and sip on all day! If needed to cool down put in a few mint leaves or a touch of aloe juice. Needed to spark digestion add a small piece of raw ginger!

Don’t be afraid to make light adjustments in the amount of spice seeds you use to make it stronger or weaker! If using during the hot summer pour the tea out and let it cool down a bit before sipping.
